Great Tips on Finding the Best Fishing Gear and Tackle for Your Next Fishing Trip
Are you looking for the best deals on quality fishing gear? Not sure what you need? Let's look at your choices and figure out what's best for your specific needs.
A successful fishing trip often comes down to being prepared and having all the right fishing gear you need for the type of fish you're after. The location you plan to fish, the time of year,
the weather are all things to consider when stocking your tackle box.
With such a huge assortment of fishing gear out there, how do you choose what to bring?
You are probably familiar with the basic fishing gear, a rod and reel. But you might not be aware that different types are used for different styles. Spinning reels have a different design from
baitcasting reels for a reason.
The same goes for hooks and lures. A pro wouldn't use an Aberdeen where a circle hook would be appropriate and vice-versa. A fly fisherman probably isn't going to cast a heavy clouser fly when fishing for trout in a small stream. The same goes for fishing line, which is designed with different applications in mind. Sometimes you need a lightweight monofilament line with a lot of stretch and other times you just have to use the super heavy braided stuff.
But finding the right fishing gear for the right application goes well beyond these basic elements.
Landing nets vary greatly, depending on whether they're designed for smaller freshwater species or the larger saltwater beasts.
Tackle boxes will have to cover an equally wide range. After you have been angling for a few years, your collection of lures, flies, hooks and other fishing tackle could reach enormous proportions. Keeping all those things secure and organized is a must.
The conditions encountered on a fishing trip vary a lot, too. That creates a need for a variety of bags to carry items that would rarely be found in a tackle box.
The clothing you wear will differ as well. You might want to go bass fishing at a warm summer lake, or maybe it's trout in a high mountain stream your after. Either way you'll need to
pack accordingly.
While on the trip, you'll need some special tools. Hook removal and sharpening, along with a hundred other tasks require pliers, files and much more. A range of knives is essential, too. You
wouldn't want to use a fillet knife to cut your fishing line.
But larger fishing equipment is equally varied.
Kayaks and canoes come in a range of sizes for different terrains. Fishing boats may be anything from a 10-foot dinghy to a 60-foot yacht. A freshwater bass boat just won't do
for saltwater fishing that targets sailfish.
Out on the lake or on the open water, a sonar unit (fish finder) can help make a fishing trip equally safe and productive.
Charging your trolling motor batteries, or powering your camper while you're away might just require a portable generator, too.
Whether you're going fishing for the first time or you are a seasoned veteran, one thing always remains the same. The love of the outdoors, the thrill of catching that 'Big One' or just enjoying those special times with friends and family is why we love fishing. Now all you need is the right gear.
